Brilliant author of The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger has not dropped off the face of the earth. He is simply living the quiet life. The elusive 20th century novelist has lived in seclusion in Cornish, New Hampshire for the past 50 years. Times columnist Charles McGrath has the story.
